Language Arts
4th and 5th grade writing are going to be terrific. You will learn to write a multiple paragraph essay, but don’t worry, we’ll start off with good sentence writing and do lots of practice paragraphs first! You will learn sentence parts right away when we get started and the 4 sentence types as well. You may already know some of this.
In reading, we will read longer stories and you will be expected to identify the parts of reading selections. You will enjoy retelling our story selections and making predictions about some of them. Try to set aside time each day for reading a chapter book you have chosen from the library. 4th graders must do book reports each month and they will be fun projects you can do on your own. 5th graders have reading and writng month folders which are fun to do and will improve your Language Arts grades!

Mathematics
Review your multiplication tables and try to know them by heart. We will begin with multiplication right away and the more facts you know, the easier 4th and 5th grade math will be for you! We will learn the place value of numbers to the BILLIONS place, and we will learn to add and subtract very long numbers with regrouping. Estimation and probability are also skills we will learn in 4th and 5th grades.
