Mrs. Devan's Fourth Grade Website
Welcome to Mrs. Devan's Fourth Grade classroom--Room 39! Here we will learn more about Math, and explore Science and Social Studies.

My team partner is Mrs. Gentry, so be sure to check her website also.

The end of the year is coming up fast. Fourth grade SOL tests are scheduled for the last week of May. Reading will be on May 28 and Math will be on May 29.

We will be reviewing released items at school and will appreciate your help at home in working with them on areas that they have difficulty with. Please encourage your child to do their best.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Math
Most students are doing very well with several digit multiplication and dividing by one digit. I'm proud of their progress.

Before the SOL test, we will spend quite a bit of time working on Measurement, both US customary and metric. You can help by pointing out measurements on food and household items.

Please continue working with flashcards, playing games with facts, and computer games. These can be effective ways to review or learn multiplication and division facts. We use emgames.com at school, and these can be used at home for great practice.

Please help by sending small items for our treasure box--pencils, erasers, wrapped candy, suckers, small notebooks, stickers, etc. Thank you!

Science
We are completing the Plants unit and will begin studying Ecosystems next. We alternate weeks studying science and social studies.

Please be sure that you are studying Science flashcards with your child at least three times per week, and signing their study schedule. The flashcard quizzes are on alternate Fridays, and the grades are averaged as a part of the report card grade.

Social Studies
We have completed our study of the Regions of the United States and are now into our Virginia Studies. We will learn about Virginia geography and history through the Jamestown era.

Virginia Studies will continue in fifth grade and there will be an SOL test on this at the end of fifth grade.
