The students started off this year by reviewing tempo, meter and rhythmic notation. They apply their knowledge by playing percussion instruments, singing and dancing. They recently have been working on line dances that demonstrate moving to the beat as well as identifying the form in the music. They are expanding their music vocabulary by identifying and performing characteristics within the music such as tempo and dynamic markings.

Students in the upper grades study rhythmic and melodic notation. They identify meter in music and can identify as well as execute tempo and dynamic markings. They have begun to recognize music’s role in history as a reflection of the people, places and events. All these skills are implemented through singing and playing classroom instruments.
This year's musicals will be at 7:00pm on February 10th for the 5th grade and February 12 for the 4th grade. The theme this year will be 1950's Rock'n'Roll. The performance will be a little different because the students would like to invite their family members to participate as they host a 1950's style sock hop. So put on those bobby socks, roll up those jeans, slick back your hair and get ready to Rock'n'Roll 1950's style.

The students are working on identifying steady beat. We move and play instruments to demonstrate the beat in music. They are beginning to recognize rhythmic and melodic patterns. Students have been learning to distinguish between loud and soft music, high and low pitches, fast and slow beats. They identify steady beat at various tempos within the music. Students demonstrate their ability to match pitches by singing simple melodies. Rhythmic notation is introduced and 1st grade is already sight reading simple rhythms. The students demonstrate their knowledge of these music concepts through interactive music games, movement, singing and playing instruments. The students have been doing a wonderful job!
