CAD - Spring 2013
Mechanical Drawing and Architectural Drawing teach the basic concepts of mechanical and architectural drafting and print reading. Students will learn to use drafting instruments such as sliding parallels, triangles, and compasses to produce drawings of mechanical objects. Students will also learn all about line weights, lettering, dimensioning, and other drawing techniques. Specific design details and standards for both Mechanical and Architectural Drawing will be learned and applied. In industry, drawings for everything in use today such as machine parts, architectural structures or electronic circuits, are drawn on a computer. It is far easier to revise and change drawings on a computer screen than with a pencil and paper. In Computer Assisted Drafting (CAD) students will learn to use the latest Computer Assisted Drafting software to produce plan drawings. Students will learn all drafting conventions, layout measurement, dimensioning, and notation, and learn the basics of CAD use, lines, circles, arcs, trimming, stretching, offsetting, and working with coordinates. Students will also learn about different drawing types, flats, orthographic projections, sections, auxiliary views, and rotation. Drafting is useful for the rest of a students life as it will allow students to understand a plan drawing of any type. Additional items reinforced at all levels of instruction include: *Job search skills *Appropriate workplace communication *Job retention skills, including: attitude, attendance, and punctuality
