Welcome to the Wonderful World of Science!!!
Dear Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Welcome to Veterans Memorial Middle School and sixth grade science! This letter will provide you with information about our science class and answer some questions you may have about the year.

This year stundents will study Earth Science using the Georgia Performance Standards. During the course, the students will get an overview of common strands in Earth Science including but not limited to- astronomy, oceanography, geology, sources of engery, and human impact on the earth.

Science grades will consist of of the following activities:

1. Chapter study guides (Due on test day)
2. Chapter assignments
3. Lab activity
4. Weekly classwork and homework assignments
5. Chapter tests
6. Reading requirements
7. Notebook checks
8. Other projects and assignments

Academic detention will be issued for imcomplete work or work not turned in.


Homework is an important aspect of learning and will be assigned on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Homework is graded on completion. Students are expected to make up all missed assignments. Late assignments will be given partial credit. Homework assignments will be posted on the school website.

Grades will be weighted as follows:
-Homework: 40%
-Classwork: 20%
-Quiz: 10%
- Test: 30%


Students are expected to come to class each day with necessary materials such as science textbook, notebook, and AR book. Please ensure that your student has an ongoing supply of pencils and paper throughout the year.
