Welcome to the 2012-2013 school year at Andover Middle School. My name is Ms. Cynthia John and I will be your child’s Civics teacher. Your child will have the opportunity to work with talented teachers that will help facilitate many great learning experiences. We are dedicated to providing your child with a happy and safe learning environment.

Here are my goals for this school year:

Learn skills for doing complex research

Develop strong communication skills

Learn to think critically

Develop good speaking and listening skills

Learn to work cooperatively in groups

Develop an understanding of Civics

Learn the role of Government in our daily lives

To help make your child’s year a successful one, please be aware that homework will be given. I will also like for you to encourage your child to read for at least 30 minutes every night. Attendance is another key to success; frequent absences affect academic achievement. If your child is absent from class, send a signed note with the student upon his/her return. School begins at 9:10 Any student that arrives after that time will be considered late.

I would like to take the opportunity to say that I am happy to have your child in my class. You are the most important people in your child’s life and I look forward to working with you to ensure your child reaches his/her full potential.
