US History is a required course for 11th grade students in Mississippi. The time period covered is 1877-Present. Each student will be required by the state of Mississippi to pass a cumulative subject area test at the end of the course in order to graduate. In this class we take an in-depth look at the people and events that have shaped our nation and the world since 1877. Students are required to do some work at home as well as in the classroom in order to perform well on the state test. Students do more than just take tests. They conduct interviews of people who lived throughout the early 20th century, listen to music reflective of the topics we study, and analyze many primary documents to get a thorough understanding of time and events.
