Hola, the language you are going to study this year is a very special language. It is present all around us! More important, Spanish is spoken by millions of Americans every day. You may have a friend with a Hispanic name, or you may know of famous people whose names are Spanish. In fact, you yourself may be of Hispanic origin. Spanish is the official language of 21 countries and is one of the five official languages of the United Nations. More than 330 million people around the world use Spanish to communicate. In a broader sense, the study of Spanish is important because language is part of culture. In learning a language, you learn not only how other people express themselves, but also how they live and what they think. This, in turn, will help you to understand your own culture better.
As you see, knowing Spanish can be a step toward several worthwhile goals: communication with others here and abroad, increased knowledge of the world and better understanding of ourselves. And now, foward with Spanish!!!!!
