This course is designed for those students who have advanced skills in writing and literary analysis and are interested in gaining experience with rhetorical analysis. Course content is mainly centered in American Literature and includes various speeches, essays, and letters as well as more traditional literature.

This course in AP English Literature and Composition is designed to reflect the expectations of an equivalent college level course and is intended to allow students to develop as informed readers and writers with a sincere appreciation for imaginative literature and its nuances. Advanced Placement English Literature and Composition is taught as a freshman-level college course in the literary analysis of poetry and literature, and follows the curricular requirements described in the AP English Course Description as outlined by the College Board. Students are asked to read and respond to a broad variety of imaginative literature, including novels, short works of fiction, poetry, and drama. As a result of their study of this literature, students are expected to further develop their skills in critical analysis and writing. The course focuses largely on the study of British literature but is offered as a continuation of AP English Language and Composition, allowing students to incorporate their previous study of non-fiction prose, rhetoric, and American literature into their work in this class as well.

This course is intended for students with advanced reading and writing abilities who want to further their language skills while studying the development of British Literature.
