This course offers a review of grammatical concepts and usage skills. Students are introduced to the basic genres of literature (thematically). They develop their writing skills in a variety of ways: they are introduced the processes of writing; they write personal reactions to the reading selections; and they are introduced to ways to develop paragraphs and expository essays. In addition, the course review study skills and provides library orientation. Outside readings and a supplementary vocabulary development program are required. Time is allotted for PSAT, SAT, and HSPA preparation. Time managements skills (assignments collected weekly followed by a weekly evaluation) will be reinforced to guarantee student AND teacher accountability.
