| In questo corso gli studenti lavorano moltissimo ripassando i tempi verbali e la grammatica. Praticano molto scrivendo, leggendo, ascoltando, parlando in italiano ed anche studiano molta cultura italiana. Questo corso fa molta attenzione alla letteratura e la poesia vecchia italiana--Dante, Petrarca e Boccaccio e molti altri autori italiani. In questo corso si usa una varieta' dei libri, ma il libro al centro degli studi e' "The Italian Heritage". Si studia anche un po' della storia italiana, della geografia italiana e dell'arte italiana. La professoressa raccomanda/suggerisce che gli studenti abbiano un dizionario italiano da utilizzare. Enjoy Italian Heritage Month October 1-31 by eating Italian food, watching an Italian movie, listening to Italian music, dancing the Tarantella or playing BOCCE. Remember to celebrate Christopher Columbus Day on Monday, October 12, 2009. Christopher Columbus was a navigator, colonizer and explorer. For 8 homework bonus points, please email Mrs. Rochniak the answer to these questions: In what year did Columbus land in the Americas (his 1st voyage)after being commissioned by the Spaniards? What were the names of the Spaniards who commissioned him? What was the name of the 3 ships that sailed together on the famous 1st voyage? and What was his son's name? Topic: art (painting)
Objective: Analyze an Italian painting by an Italian artist (you may NOT choose Monna Lisa by DaVinci, but you may use the sheet I gave you in class as a guide). Please type up the assignment in paragraph form (double spaced and written only in Italian)and include the following: your name, date (written in Italian), name of artwork, artist with 6 biographical details on the artist's life, what do you see in the painting (background and foreground), what colors are used in this painting, how does the painting make you feel,do you like this painting (why/why not), is there any history or another connection that could be made to this painting, any other information that you could include regarding the painting that you have chosen.

AP Italian exam will not take place May 2010.

The College Board has notified us that the AP Italian Exam will NOT be offered next year in May 2010, but could possibly be reinstated in May 2011 depending upon funds. Please call, email and/or write to the College Board asking them to reinstate the Italian AP Exam.
Next school year (2009-2010) Hamden High School will offer a 5th level of Italian, but it won't be considered an AP course and there will NOT be an AP exam. Seniors in the 5th year Italian course (or any Italian course) who do NOT want to take the final exam, MUST have a 90 average overall (MP 1, 2, 3, 4 and midterm exam) in order to exempt from the FINAL EXAM in June. |
