For our 4th quarter theme, we will explore the idea of "Coming of Age" or "Growing Up". As you are well aware, as we grow we face new challenges, choices, and expectations. How we deal with them helps shape who we are as people and what path we will take in life.
Besides looking at short stories, poems, and modern video, we will be reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. This book, one of my all-time favorites, explores the idea of growing up in a backdrop of a racist small town in Alamaba in the 1930s. We will spend a majority of the quarter on the book, and I truly believe you will all come to appreciate the characters, story, and the message Lee passes on to her readers.
