Our play is a comedy about a merchant, Sganarelle, and his treasured daughter, Lucinda. Recently a widower, Sganarelle will do absolutely anything to lift his daughter out of her depression... except allow her to marry her beloved Clitander. However, Lisette, her faithful maid, is just as "determined to liberate Lucinda from her father's tyrannic rule" as Clitander is to make her his bride. The clever Lisette concocts a scheme, starring Clitander as the fabulous "Dr. Love", come to cure Lucinda from her mysterious 'illness'. After being frustrated by the bumbling efforts of several doctors to cure his daughter, Sganarelle rejoices at Dr. Love's genius cure: to convince Lucinda that she is getting married. Thanks to Lisette's clever orchestration, a real marriage is performed, instead of the phony one Sganarelle is convinced is happening. Before he realized what has occurred, Clitander has swept Lucida away for "long range therapy"... "abroad."

Lisette: "I know all about it. It's a very old cure."

Sganarelle: "It is? What do you call it?"

Lisette: "A honeymoon."
