Welcome to 4 Blue!  Below is an outline of subject topics.  Check here periodically for information.

Math- Chapter 12 brings us to dividing by two digits with 2/3/4 digit dividends, trial quotients, greater quotients, teens as divisors, and zeros in the quotient.  Multiplication is still a very important part of division, so continue to practice your facts at home. Our Math Workshop and spiral worksheets will continue to reinforce known and new concepts of math.  2 1/2 Mad Minutes for Scoops continues.  I'm very proud of the many scoops students are earning. Once the 12 multiplication tables have been attained, Multipication Licenses will be given to students who can complete 50 multiplication facts within 1 1/2 minutes. Extra Math should continue to be practiced at least 3 times per week.  The more you practice the better you get!  

Reading- Unit 2's theme is Making a Difference.  Stories we will read are My Brother Martin, Mighty Jackie, Making a Splash, Wild Horses, and Mystic Horse. Comprehension skills that we will study are Author's Purpose, Main Idea and Details, Cause & Effect, and Sequence. 

Vocabulary- Strategies that will be studied are Prefixes & Suffixes, Context Clues: Description and Paragraph clues, Idioms, and Homophones

Spelling-Phonics/spelling skills that will be studied are prefixes and suffixes, digraphs-three letter blends, and r-controlled vowels

Grammar-mechanics and usage will be Nouns (common, proper, singular, plural, irregular plural, and possessive), Capitalizing proper nouns, using commas in a series, correct plural forms, and punctuating titles and letters.

Writing- We begin with Ideas in the Personal Narrative style of writing. 

Religion- Chapter 10- The Second Commandment, will be studied in detail.  We will begin our Lent Calendar.  Each week during Lent we will formulate a plan for prayer, pennance, and good works.  

Science-4-Blue and 4-Red will move into Chapter 2 to learn about the basic needs of animals and plants.
