7th grade English
This year long course will cover several classic pieces of literature (Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry; The Diary of Anne Frank; The Outsiders and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas), as well as various poems and short stories. Students will annotate poems and acquire a working vocabulary of literary terms. Students will write several different essays.
8th Grade Pre-AP English
This year long course will cover several classic pieces of literature (Monster, Flowers for Algernon, October Sky, The Giver, and The Book Thief), as well as various poems and short stories. Students will annotate poems and acquire a working vocabulary of literary terms. Students will be required to complete summer reading and assignments along with extra reading during the school year, which will be discussed further in Book Circles. There will also be a focus placed on proper research techniques and writing research papers. Students will write several different essays and complete timed writing assignments.
9th grade Pre-AP English
This year long course will cover several classic pieces of literature (The Odyssey, Romeo & Juliet, The Old Man and the Sea, The Jungle, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and Tuesday's With Morrie), as well as various poems and short stories. Students will annotate poems and acquire a working vocabulary of literary terms. Students will be required to complete summer reading and assignments along with extra reading during the school year, which will be discussed further in Book Circles. There will also be a focus placed on proper research techniques and writing research papers. Students will write several different essays and complete timed writing assignments.
O.T.L.
This year long class is disigned to help students to improve their scores on the State Reading Assessment. We will work on reading comprehesion as well as test taking strategies.
