Art Aficionado Project
November 16, 2009 |
 |
Background: Studying the works of art produced during a specific time period can teach us a great deal about the values of the people who created the art. For example, much of the art of the Middle Ages reflects religious values. In general, medieval art developed themes of faith and religious spirituality, rather than human individuality. In contrast, Renaissance artists combined religious themes with the humanistic values of the era. As humanity became the center of life on earth, artists placed realistic human beings at the center of their works.
Your Task:
A major art magazine is publishing a special Renaissance edition. They want you, a world renowned art aficionado, to select the FOUR most outstanding pieces of Renaissance art ever created.
Outstanding Artists to Research: (You are not limited to these artists)
- Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
- Michelangelo (1475-1564)
- Rafael (1483-1520)
- Titian (1488-1576)
Procedure:
1. Select FOUR Renaissance pieces you believe to be the best of the best in terms of Renaissance art.
2. Print copies of your top four choices.
3. Write a paragraph defending each piece of artwork.
a. Include a thesis to intro your paper
b. Provide a topic sentence (reason) for choosing the painting or
sculpture.
c. Support your reason with the facts by analyzing the technique. What
makes this piece an exemplar of Renaissance art? (i.e.: perspective,
humanism, topic, etc.)
