Education Means Opportunities!
WELCOME:
No, I am not Barack Obama. I am, however, pleased to reinforce his message here. You can look in the photograph album to find some photographs of the real me climbing the Matanushka Glacier last summer.

Dropping out of high school is no longer an option. It's not just quitting on yourself; it's quitting on your country. And this country needs and values the talents of every American. ...

-- from President Barack Obama's address to Congress on February 24, 2009

NEED EXTRA HELP? I have office hours in room A226 after school on Mondays and Tuesdays. I am also happy to schedule meetings at other times or to communicate by email.

Some students have asked me for more information about the Open Office suite of software. Open Office is free, open source software available by downloading from the website www.openoffice.org. The suite includes word processing software that does what Microsoft Word does. It also has software for slide presentations (like Power Point) and spreadsheets (like Excel). Open source means that people who know programming can actually customize the software for their own needs. People who do not know programming can ignore this feature.

Expository Writing -- Fall Semester 2009
This semester elective focuses on the development of expository writing for college and business. The second period class meets in room C211. The third period class meets in room B208.

A course overview is attached.

Let's add some vocabulary builders. Here is a video clip to illustrate the word "ambivalence" (uncertainty caused by not being able to make a choice). This boy is ambivalent about meeting his first lobsters. He is curious and wants to touch them and learn more about them. He is scared because they look strange and a little dangerous. Enjoy his ambivalence.

Later this year we will read Macbeth, but I thought you might enjoy seeing and hearing this performance ahead of time.
