The kids had a great time at our Community Day Field Trip. They enjoyed meeting and talking with the firemen and policemen. Thank you to all who chaperoned and for those that sent food for the officers! If you have bowls or utensils nothing has been sent back to the school so you may want to stop by the fire station and ask for your things back.
This week we finished our next box of letters. The kids have been introduced to f, a, g, r, n, t, s, e, c, h, m, o, b, w, I, and l. They are having fun sounding out words that I make using just those letters! Practice making 3 and 4 letter words with those letters and see if your child can sound them out with you.
In Math we’re working on counting and also different ways to “make a number” such as 5. I use counters and they have to make different groups to make 5 such as 2 and 3, 4 and 1, and so on. You can practice this concept using any amount of counters to 10 and having them make different groups for that number. They can also practice writing the numbers.
Next Wednesday will be our pumpkin carving day. If you’re planning on helping out please be here by 1:45. I hope to take the kids outside to the picnic tables if it’s nice. I have scoopers, scrapers, and knives. Remember we’re doing what I call “Charlie Brown” jack o’ lanterns, not the fancy ones. I’m telling the kids that they get to decide in their group what kind of face for you to carve so get ready!
The Halloween parade is Friday the 31st at 10:00. It’s been changed from 9:30. The kids can wear their costume to school that day. So far I’ve had no one tell me that their child cannot dress up. I have a couple of moms that will be in the room to help any child with their costume before the parade. The parade itself will be on the field. The kids will then come back to the room where they will eat a pizza lunch. (No lunches needed that day) If you have not sent in your $2 please do so as soon as possible so I can get it to the room parents. Halloween is a half-day. The kids get out at noon. There will be carpool pick up that day.
